Cummins.

Postby simsy56 » Sat Feb 06, 2010 10:29 am

Hi all!,
Does anyone know the approximate mpg of a rear Cummins engined Coachmen Cross Country please? l am just wanting a ball park figure for my calculations. Any other pro's and con's relating to this type of vehicle would be appreciated. Not sure of the size of the engine at the mo.
Many thanks,
Craig.

Our 34 foot Monaco Knight has the 5.9 litre 275hp Cummins engine. Mileage is around 10-12mg depending on conditions. Am I towing, cruising speed, road types. Obviously the best mileage comes from constant 55mph. Much slower than that and the engine doesn't have the torque to stay in top gear and starts downshifting.

Some of the worst consumption I get is driving up the A1. It's the frequent roundabouts connected by dual carriageways. Accelerating a 11 ton RV uses a LOT of diesel.

Hope that helps
Regards Doug

Hi Craig
We also have a Cummins 5.9 (not sure of horsepower but sometimes not quite enough.....) and I guesstimate that we get 10-14 as Doug says depending on lots of things. Use 10MPG as your calculation and you should be pleased most of the time.
Good luck matey :D

Hi Craig,

I would agree with the others about MPG, you should expect about 12MPG providing your sensible. I have driven a few of the Coachmen Sportscoach models such as a 2006 39ft Triple Slide Encore and a 2006 38ft Double Slide Cross Country. I have also seen the latest 2009/2010 Cross Country models. They are great looking coaches and drive well. They look great in full body paint. The Cross Country models are the entry level diesel pushers and are good value for money. They do exactly what they say on the tin. Before we starting importing the Forest River Berkshire we considered the Sportscoach products but decided the Forest River were better value for money and better built.

Hope this helps,

James
