Problems - always problems!

Postby doug » Sat Feb 06, 2010 5:16 pm

We took Gladys out for a run today. The first time this year and ahead of a planned visit to Cummins to look into the missing turbo boost problems. (only delivers 17 psi instead of the 30psi it's supposed to). A few miles down the road and the Check Trans light came on again. I thought Allison managed to fix that, they charged me enough. It's weird, the light comes on and the gearbox goes into limp home mode. Pull up, select park, stop the engine. When I restart everything is normal again...until the next time.

When we got back to the yard I could smell burning oil. On checking it looks as though the nearside front hub seal has failed....again.

So... does anyone know of a company capable of diagnosing problems with Cummins & Allison and able to charge an oil seal?
Regards Doug

Hi Keith,
I didn't think of Signature because they couldn't help with Allison. Thinking about it though, it CAN'T be mechanical. If it was, the problem would still be there after restarting the engine. It's got be electrical or electronic. I'll give them a ring

Doug

If we can not find the fault then Allison can come to us, if needed, but our Cummins laptop will read gearbox fault's as well.

Thanks Sharon,
I spoke to Steve on Friday and arranged for Gladys to be delivered to him tomorrow (Monday). We're both leaning towards the problems being electrical (except for the bearing/oil seal).
I've got a feeling that Ron and I are going to be competing for the longest stories!
