Hi, Thank you for visiting us at the American RV Club. This is the only open forum run by a non-profit making club specifically for American motorhomes.

Please take a couple of minutes to register and choose an ID. It is completely free to join and you'll then be able to access a treasure trove of help and advice.

The American RV Club is often described as the friendly club and that's the watch word on the forum as well. Come on in, you're a friend we're waiting to meet.

Regards The committee

Registering an America RV in France

If you're new to RVing this is the place to ask your questions. Don't worry, there's no such thing as a dumb question!

So a couple of them have tried then. :) Ray Nipper lives in France and has a stopover, that's why I thought you meant him Colin. Hereford Bull if its the same guy goes on another RV site, he's still about because he was on their yesterday.

Funny this should come up, as someone else asked this recently on another forum, but I think he said he could get it registered to his son-in-law who lives in the UK.

It's easier than it used to be though expensive and time consuming.

Contact bart.schiks@orange.fr

Where in France are you?

Best wishes and happy travels.....PJ

It can be done.
We saw a Winnebago with French Plates on it whilst in France traveling home in October / November 2013.
The owner volunteered he'd bought it already converted and registered...so it has been done.

A Dutchman, now resident in France is doing it, do contact bart.schiks@orange.fr for more info.

When buying toys....or shopping at Narbonne Accessories....in Narbonne we were advised the first thing to do was to change all our gas system to French and change from 120 V Ac to 220 V AC, neither of which I'm prepared to do on the basis of "if it ain't broke....don't fix it" and junk our genny, fridge/freezer, Air Conditioner, TV's, microwave and the aforesaid propane system.

Another source of information could be considered; http://www.camping-car-monde.fr which is the parent body of the Silroute Club, the UK part of which can be found on Yahoo forums......
Further; it's not necessary to return to the UK every year for the MOT and Tax as it's not compulsory to have either outside of the UK.....though one does have to advise DVLA the RV is no longer on the [UK] road.....insurance is another matter but can be overcome.

I'm keen to have contact from members who are in France, Western Italy and Eastern Spain that we might meet up .......as mentioned in an earlier post.

Safe and happy travels.....PJ.
